Official opening

The official opening - 18th November, 1978

In the Blacktown Advocate (29th November 1978) the mayor of Blacktown, Ald John Aquilina wrote the following article in his regular column "From the Mayor's Desk":

"Anne and I were fortunate on the afternoon of Saturday, November 18, to attend the opening of extensions at Coreen Public School and the school's swimming pool in Hereward Highway, Blacktown.

The official opening was performed by state member for Blacktown, Mr G Barnier, who represented the Minister for Education, Mr Bedford.

The school and the swimming pool are a credit to the Department of Education, the Parents and Citizens Association of the school, the pupils themselves and the number of community organisations in Blacktown that have helped out.

Highlight of the afternoon came when the president of the Comboyne Club, Mrs Martens, presented a cheque of $500 to the relieving school principal, Mr S Taylor, for the further provision of facilities for the school."
